State-level Thirukkural contest

Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam organises the annual Thirukkural Elocution Contest for school and college students in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The preliminary round will begin in Chennai at Dr. MGR Janaki Arts and Science College for Women on July 19, a
nd then will be held in Vellore (July 20), Coimbatore (July 26), Salem (July 27), Tirunelveli (August 2), Madurai (August 3), Tiruchi (August 9) and Puducherry (August 10). The preliminary round and semi finals will be held on the same day whereas the finals will take place on August 30 in Chennai.
Each contestant can speak for five minutes on any of the topics mentioned here. The topics are ‘Thottanai Thoorum Manarkeni’ or ‘Odayar Yenapaduvathu Ookkam’ or ‘Yenni Thuniga Karumam’ (for Juniors - Classes Six to Eight); ‘Irrultheera Yenni Seyal’ or ‘Karumamae Katalai Kal’ or ‘Keitpinung Kela Thagayavae’ (for Seniors - Classes Nine and Ten); ‘Porinmai Yarkkum Pazhiyanru’ or ‘Uzhuvaar Ulagatharukku Aani’ or ‘Nannayam Yennum Serukku’ (for Super Seniors - Classes Eleven and Twelve); and ‘Yarae Pizhathathu Orukirpavar’ or ‘Veinthamai Illatha Naadu’ or ‘Innathu Inaniloor Vazhthal’ (for college students - Diploma/UG/PG courses).
Each institution can send only two entries from each class under each category. Cash prizes of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 will be awarded to winners in each group.Application forms can be collected from the nearest Shriram Chits branch or from Shriram Chits, Greams Dugar Building, Fifth floor, No. 149, Greams Road, ph: 42236000. The last date for submitting the forms is July 10.
