On y'r bike!

From Chennai to Chail, seven youngsters will set off on motorcycles as part of MTV India's first reality adventure show

All set for the adventure.

YOUNGSTERS LIKE to explore unknown territory. That is exactly what four boys and three girls will be doing over the next six weeks. The seven of them will be on the road, trying to come to grips with different situations as they zip around the country, on their four 223cc Hero Honda Karizma mobikes. The roadies' journey was flagged off from Chennai on August 15. Their adventure will last 40 days and cover 4000 kilometres. Till they cover the last lap at Chail, a hill resort in Himachal Pradesh, MTV cameras will be trained on them. The reels will go into the making of "MTV and Hero Honda Roadies", MTV India's first reality adventure show. The show will be telecast in 26 episodes.

Introducing the roadies at the VGP Golden Beach resort, MTV VJ Cyrus Sahukar says, "They were selected from 6,000 aspirants who had come for auditions — from 18-year-olds to 65-year-old grandfathers. After scouring the country for 20 days, we have selected these boys and girls."

The roadies are: Divya Sukhla (18) from Bangalore, Tony Kordelia (20) from Pune, Mini Goel (19) from Chandigarh, Rannvijay Singh Singha (20) from Delhi, Ranjit Bajaj (24) from Chandigarh, Natasha Gulati (21) from Delhi and Iqnoor Bains (21) from Rajpura.

What is in store for them? "That is a billion dollar question. Nobody knows what is going to happen. Strong friendships can come out of this association or the roadies may part on bitter terms," laughs Sahukar. "It is almost like a film. There is that element of suspense in the whole thing. You pick up one guy from Delhi and another from Pune, then one girl from Bangalore and another from Chandigarh, and put them together. They did not know each other until a little while ago. It will be interesting to see how they relate to each other over the next 40 days."

A film-making unit will be filming the roadies' adventures and misadventures.

Wherever they go, the roadies will be given a slice of the local action. They will have to get their hands dirty, at times. "For example, they will be making a cow shed at Anand, the milk town."

On route, the roadies will be performing a do-gooder act. They will be disbursing MTV Roadies scholarships, offered by Rai University. Sahukar does not want to divulge any more of what MTV has prepared for them.

What criteria were applied in the selection of the roadies? "We were looking for people who are intelligent and fun-loving and like to see how the others live." "The roadies can be assured of one thing - there will be surprises all along," reiterates Sahukar. Some of which may not be pleasant enough. They may have to inure themselves to unpleasant weather and other irritants.

Along the way, if a roadie feels the trip is running him into the ground, he is free to opt out. In fact, he can call it quits for whatever reason he could think of. Going by the roadies' enthusiasm, that possibility seems light years away. The roadies seem to know that if they can take the rough with the smooth, they will have an exhilarating trip.
