`Tere Naam', directed by Satish Kaushik, starring Salman Khan and Bhumika Chawla is releasing tomorrow.

TRUE LIES: Salman Khan in `Tere Naam.'
UNCANNY IT may seem, but coincidentally it has been linked with the Salman-Ash story in real life.
But the reel story is the remake of the Tamil film Sethu where Vikram had performed extraordinarily well.
Satish Kaushik has chosen this film for the remake. Remakes seem to be his forte for the master has tasted success with most of them from Hum Aap Ke Dil Mein Rehte Hain to Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai. "I saw Vikram's unbelievable performance in Sethu, an unconventionally formatted film where there are no negative characters but just mismatched people where destiny plays the villain. I joined the project as director after Sunil Manchanda and Salman Khan decided to make the film in Hindi. So, I adapted it to the Hindi setting with the help of the expert Jainendra Jain who rewrote the screenplay. The film is set between Agra and Brindavan," says Satish Kaushik.
"Delineating the storyline, Kaushik says, "the hero is an eccentric, violent guy (played by Salman Khan) who adores this simple and noble girl (essayed by Bhumika Chawla), the daughter of a priest. The `susheel' girl had disappeared from Hindi films and I have tried to bring that back here. How destiny plays havoc in their lives forms the story." Since the character is weird, the film has been assumed to be Salman's real story. "Coincidentally, both have been connected. But, there is no resemblance at all," refutes Kaushik.
The movie is violent not in terms of physical violence but in terms of emotions. Moreover, all the unsavoury reports of the relationship between Salman and Kaushik are baseless. "He is said to have slapped me which was baseless but hyped to project the negative image. We shared a cordial relationship, says Kaushik, adding, "Salman has given the performance of his life in this unconventional character-based role. It is surely a mind-blowing performance."
Kaushik had seen Khushi in Telugu and found that Bhumika was the apt choice for the role. "She is a Delhi girl who knows Hindi. She has an expressive face and good depth. A sublime look was needed and she conveyed it properly." This emotional, small town story was shot in Hyderabad, Kulu Manali, Jodhpur, Nasik, Delhi and Devlali. The highlights of Tere Naam according to Kaushik are the story, performances and music. Kaushik reveals that "Rs. 2 lakhs advance booking has been done in one of the theatres in Hyderabad. In fact, all over the Nizam's territory (the distribution area). Trade pundits say that such an advance booking has not been made in the last 10-12 years." Will Tere Naam resurrect the image of Sallu from `baddie' to good? Will it help in giving a fillip to his career which is all but smooth? Most importantly, will Sallu be able to weather the storm and cruise on the safe sea with Tere Naam? Wait for Friday to know the answers.
