Food for love, music for all
FOOD LOVERS of Noida have a new meeting point. In front of the Appu Ghar Amusement Park site, not too far from the Film City, just behind McDonald's, at a stone's throw from gurudwara, it is called The Yellow Chilli, which turns well-known chef Sanjeev Kapoor into a brand name. Located in sector 18, this 96-cover restaurant was inaugurated in April this year, and has since then steadily risen in popularity stakes in a sector where you get fresh eating options with every new parking lane.
But there is something about The Yellow Chilli which tells you that it is more different than the clichéd word might communicate. The hosts here believe that music is the food of love, hence they just play on. Truth to tell the piped music you get here is any day better than the `live' performances one encounters at many other places.
As we start with fresh juice after placing an order for Shammi Shikampur (Rs.180) and Murgh Pur Lutf (Rs.185), the music goes on. "Aajao Machalte Hain Armaan... " goes one track, then there is another timeless one, "Bachpan Ki Mohabbat Ko... ", followed by "Aa Laut Ke Aaja Mere Meet... ".
The late evening gives way to young night as we lay our hands on Murgh which is nothing but boneless chicken delicately spiced, layered with cheese, jeera and coriander. The Shikampur turns out to be spring lamb kabab minced with cumin and cloves.
The hosts suggest we go in for Machi Handi Lazeez (Rs.190) for the main course. However, Bhuna Gosht scores over this stuffed paupiettes of pomfret with fish mince.
The two, backed by some roomali roti, Dum ki Biryani and raita complete a meal which takes some time coming, and a greater time forgetting.
We are all but through with food when the hosts suggest we try their speciality, Lalla mussa Dal, cooked overnight. It is a black lentils preparation which scores for vegetarians. They take pride in it, we soon discover the reason, and wonder why the best had to come at the end!
As we enjoy our ice creams at the end, the music changes to "Jab Jag Uthe Armaan... ". The night is still young. It is time to move on, having enjoyed the hospitality of an elegantly designed, soothing restaurant. It is time for gratification of a different kind.
