Footpath to high success...

Vikram Bhatt's "Footpath" releases this Friday. SANJEEV CHOUDHARY caches up with Aftab Shivdasani, its hero, who is confident his hard work will bear fruit... .

HE IS shy and prefers solitude, yet he has a huge female fan following. "An instinctive private and reserved person who opens up when needed. Otherwise he loves to be in his shell," this is the way Aftab Shivdasani describes himself. His dresses casually but does not fail to make a statement. Aftab, who started his career the "Mast" way, enjoys the recognition of a cute and charming hero. The actor is making an appearance in Vikram Bhatt's "Footpath", which is said to be a film of betrayal, hate and falsehood against one's own childhood friends. He was in New Delhi this past week along with other co-stars of the film, Bipasa Basu, Emraan Khan and Rahul Dev, for media interaction.

"`Footpath' is a story of three friends where I play the role of Arjun, who has to strike a balance between duties and friendships. All three have been born and brought up on `Footpath'. But due to the situations we have to depart from each other," informs Aftab, dressed in designer denim shirt and jeans. He adds, "Till now I have been doing mostly romantic films, but in this film I have got an opportunity to show other shades. I play an intense character and hope people would like it."

The actor has got appreciation for his negative role in "Kasoor". As he explains, "That film played a significant role in my career and helped me mature as an actor. Being an actor I want to keep on trying different roles. In spite of my films having not done fair business at the box office in the past, I have been fortunate to get appreciation and liking of the people for my work."

Just as he did with his last release, "Hungama" where he held his own in front of Paresh Rawal and Akshaye Khanna. The film is a hit of sorts and might just end his search for elusive box office success.

Though he might stress the importance of "Footpath" in his career, Aftab has other avenues to fall back on just in case. He will be soon seen in "Muskaan" and "Jane Hoga Kya", a science fiction film, in which for the first time he plays a double role with both positive and negative shades. Also in the pipeline is the much-delayed "Suno Sasurjee" where he stars opposite Amisha Patel.

As he says, "I believe in slow and steady growth. I always try to give my best with conscious effort and rest I leave it to my luck. I am satisfied with my career graph and whatever I have done, I have done it honestly". Hopefully, the cinemagoers will recognise his hard work when "Footpath" kisses the silver screen across Delhi this Friday.
