Urdu classics for all...
YOU MIGHT call it a fashion or an inclination to read stories, ghazals and stories penned by famed and classical Urdu writers that many readers now resort to books that are transliteration of Urdu. Whatever the reason, but such books are drawing huge readership. Be it a translation of Hafeez Merathi and Abhay Kumar Abhay's Urdu poems translated by Shahid Chaudhary and published by Regency Publication in Delhi or Urdu Darpan, a recently launched quarterly magazine with some news value, published by National Council for Promotion of Urdu language of which Murli Manohar Joshi is the Chairman. Hamidullah Bhatt is the editor of the quarterly that actually was meant to help non-Urdu knowing readers read Urdu classical stories and poems, now also features a few translated articles penned by famous political analysts on current issues, it may be Rafiq Zakaria or Murli Manohar Joshi.
While quarterly owes its success to Urdu classical stories, poems and happenings that non-Urdu readers always wanted to read but never found them in Devanagari script. It also has a column by famed Urdu writer and critic Gopi Chand Narang on how to write in Urdu.
