AS THE bigger labels are busy giving final stitches to their collections for Lakme India Fashion Week, the Fashion Design Council found it opportune to showcase the skills of its preliminary members by organising a fashion show during the Brand Magic 2003 fair at New Delhi's Pragati Maidan.
Six promising talents of the country - Abhishek Dutta from Kolkata, Amit Gupta from Kanpur, Ashish and Viral Parikh from Ahmedabad, Parvesh and Jai and Sonia Jetleey from New Delhi and Sana'a Kayum from Mumbai displayed their talent through a sequence of 60 garments.
Abhishek Dutta impressed with his originality and effort to bring the bride out of traditional opulence with saris embellished with fine leather and skirt shaped lehengas in georgette offset with leather jackets. Sonia Jetleey with a correct numerological surname has experimented to move beyond the white to coloured chikankari on pure silk and some attractive floral patchwork with wearable appeal being the underline. Rest were found aping the style gurus without much success.
