Dress up your salads

Use your imagination to create the most colourful and tasty salads with these dressings.

WITH THE scorching heat and gallons of water one consumes one hardly feels like eating much food. In such a situation salads come in handy. Cool, nutritious and light, they can be made in a jiffy as well. Try using them with different vegetables and fruits and watch people tuck them in.

Best ever coleslaw dressing

Ingredients:

Vegetarian mayonnaise - 3 rounded tbsp
Vegetable oil -1/2 cup
Vinegar -1/4 cup
Sugar - 3 tbsp

Method: Place all ingredients in a jar or plastic container and shake well. Will keep for weeks in refrigerator. Shake well before using.

Vegetarian mayonnaise is available in Food World and Q-Mart at Road No. 2, Banjara Hills

Salad dressing

Ingredients:

Condensed milk - 1 can
Vinegar - 1/2 cup
Oil - 1/2 cup
Egg - 1
Mustard - 2 tsp
Salt - 1 tsp

Method: Mix everything together and beat well. Store in refrigerator.

This dressing is ideal for green vegetables like lettuce, broccoli and French beans.

Melody Dressing

Ingredients:

Salad oil - 1/2 cup
Ketchup - 1/3 cup
Vinegar - 1/4 cup
Lemon juice - 2 tbsp
Sugar - 1/3 cup
Paprika - 1 tsp
Salt - 1 tsp

Method: Put all the ingredients into a bottle or jar. Cover tightly and shake well. Chill thoroughly. Shake well before serving.

This dressing goes well with cottage cheese and boiled potatoes.

Chefs dressing

Ingredients:

Tomato juice - 1/3 cup
Oil - 1/3 cup
Vinegar - 1/4cup
Pepper - 1/4 cup
Oregano - 1/2 cup
Dry mustard - 1/2 cup
Soya sauce - 1/4 cup

Method: Combine everything and shake well.

Use this dressing and raw vegetables like cucumber, tomato and onions or with ham, beef and chicken strips.

Creamy mustard dressing

Ingredients:

Pepper Mustard or
Mustard - 3 tbsp
Vinegar - 2 tbsp
Salt - 1/4 tsp
Sugar - 2 tbsp
Evaporated milk - 2 tbsp
Angostra bitters - 1 tbsp

Method: Combine all the ingredients in a bowl.

Beat with rotary beater until light and fluffy. Use in any salad for dressing.

Angostra bitters is available at Q-Mart.
