IN THIS collection that includes Pandit Jasraj's trademark renderings on Krishna themes, Side A is dominated by "Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya" - the many names of Krishna. The other side begins with a slow and leisurely Surdas bhajan, "Rani Tero Chirjeeyo Gopal" - a composition of the veteran vocalist - that is moving in its simplicity and devotion, with a tempo change at the end that lends it a vibrant ecstasy. After the brisk "Shyam Murari", the concluding aarti "Gopalniranjanam" with the refrain "Jayadeva, Jayadeva Vandegopalam, Vandegopalam" sung by Pandit Jasraj and chorus is a fervent and beautiful rendition. This album is definitely a good investment for the religiously inclined or those who like soothing melodies based in the classical idiom.
