Manram's service
The Anniversary celebrations of the Amuthasurabhi Kalai Manram, over the past 27 years, have meant distribution of free notebooks and writing materials to 3,000 needy students in Madurai district.
It was the same this year too. The difference, of course, was the massive crowd that had turned up recently on the grounds of the St. Mary's Boys' Higher Secondary School. For, the event also marked the honouring of the top five Plus-Two achievers at the district level.
Notebooks and other materials were distributed to the students, on behalf of the Manram, by the MLAs, N. Nanmaran and I. Valarmathi Jebaraj. The honour for the Headmaster, Fr. L. Francis, was on account of his school being chosen as the best institution.
The Manram president, V. Balakrishnan, was at the helm, converting the philanthropy of commercial and consumer organisations in the city into material benefits for the students. Since the organisations were encouraged to render their help in kind, they had no qualms being a part of the philanthropic exercise.
