Bewildered teachers
FROM THE very start of the afternoon session meant for eliciting the views of matriculation schools, at the Vikaasa School, the venue of the Chittibabu Sub-Committee's Madurai sitting, bewilderment was writ large on the faces of teachers.
But for the candid views expressed by some teachers' organisations, in support of the teachers' demands, a chunk of the session, ironically, saw the justification of the school managements' stand by the respective principals and also a `motivated' teacher.
They were unequivocal in their support for their managements, for obvious reasons.
Just as the session was about to end, a desperate teacher of a matriculation school in a rural area, who could not bear the situation going out of hand no more, sprang up to create ripples among the audience.
It was, in fact, his revelation of being paid a measely Rs. 650 a month for performing multifarious roles of a teacher, Art and Culture in-charge, Office Assistant and a watchman, that gave the teachers, coerced into muteness, a sense of vicarious satisfaction.
