Time for self-healing

After a year-long hard work there comes a month for rest. The month for taking care of oneself.

Taking special medicinal gruel and leading the day's routine's in a most disciplined manner, the month of `Karkitakam' gets most of the traditional homes set to follow the natural way of rejuvenation.

Lifestyles today have changed. The nature of jobs has changed and so have the style of observing discipline during the month. Making of marinukanji -- or the medicinal broth has been taken up by quite a few organisations which are in the forefront of popularising natural food.

Nutritious food with lots of vegetables -- grown mostly in an organic manner cooked with little oil, is prescribed as the daily food. No one denies the healthy aspect of such a prescription. But there are very few who actually adopt these food habits.

At Tapovanam, the Centre for Youth Development, Ochanthuruth, Vypeen, a training programme of making the medicinal broth is on.
