A treasure chest of music
What is music? What makes music classical? These and other questions about music have always haunted members of the younger generation. To acquaint them with the elementary processes of Western classical music, Max Mueller Bhavan and the Delhi Music Society will present a three-day interactive workshop from August 15 to 18.
To be conducted by Parag Trivedi, the three-day workshop will introduce people to the instruments of the orchestra, the role of the conductor, differences between Indian and Western classical music, melody and harmony, point and counter-point, structures in music, modulation, sonata and symphony and the concerto.
``The workshop will help you enjoy, understand and feel comfortable with the classical music of the West. The interactive sessions will include video films, recorded music, slides and blackboard explanations,'' says a spokesperson for the Delhi Music Society.
Earlier workshops by Dr. Trivedi have evoked a good response from participants. "I feel like a treasure chest has suddenly been opened for me. Thanks, Parag,'' says one participant. "Till now I thought western classical music was difficult to understand. All it needed were a few simple keys that Parag has provided through his workshop,'' says another.
Parag's workshops have the perfect blend of fun and serious information. His style of presentation too has been appreciated by the participants. "The workshop was really a treat. Being immersed in beautiful music for three whole days away from the hustle and bustle of city life is something I really enjoyed.''
