Magnificent feat
FOR 28 YEAR old R. Thirulogachandran, a resident of Manimangalam Village in Kancheepuram District, it will be an opportunity to achieve magnificent feat.
He has been accepted as a candidate to scale Mt. Everest. But he has another uphill task before he can actually start off: he must mobilise $ 37,665 to join the 15-member Mt. Everest Expedition U.S. team from Kathmandu.
``It has always been my ambition to create a record in mountaineering and if I join the Mt. Everest expedition through South route on March 21, 2003, it will be a signal honour for India,'' says a beaming Thirulogachandran. He holds an M.Com from Madras University and works as Senior Account Staff at the Blue Dart Aviation at the Chennai airport.
Son of a gangman at Tambaram railway station, an athlete and an orange belt holder in Karate, Thirulogachandran underwent a basic mountaineering course in 1994.
He participated in the All India NCC Boys Mountaineering Expedition in 1995, and in 1997, he took an advanced mountaineering course.
He completed a basic snow skiing course in 2000. Now, the goal is the peak named after George Everest.
``Will the State Government give me a firm footing for the expedition,'' wonders Thirulogachandran.
