An epic toon for TV
PANDAVAS WILL soon join ranks with the Power Puff girls, Johnny Bravo, Dexter, Ed, Edd and Eddy. Yes that's right, the five mighty brothers of the Indian epic, Mahabharata, will appear in the ``Cartoon Theatre'' of the Cartoon Network this Sunday.
The TV network will telecast, ``Pandavas the five warriors'', the 120-minute movie produced by Chennai-based Pentamedia Graphics. Apart from the interest in the tale itself, movie audiences can check out just how good the award winning animation from Chennai's 3dfx stable is. The movie bagged the National Award for the Best English Feature Film in 2000 and the second best animation feature film at the Vancouver Effects and Animation Festival, 2001.
State-of-the-art motion capture technology was used to generate the animations in the studio. The technical finesse is of course only second to all the twists in the tale itself. Music by Illayaraja and screenplay by Sujatha make this animation all the more ``Indian.''
This was the second animated movie from Pentamedia, after it broke new ground with its ``Sinbad beyond the veil of mists'', the first motion capture animation produced in this part of the world. Recently, the company had recently released ``Ali Baba'' that evoked only lukewarm response at the box office. Last heard, Pentamedia was busy creating a canvas for Hanuman.
More on the ``Cartoon Theatre": Cartoon Network intends to telecast best animated features on the fourth Sunday of every month. So this Sunday, tune in by 12 noon. Repeat telecast is at 8 p.m. on the same day.
