Special concert for special people

ON MAY 30, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt will be playing in aid of some very special people. His music will hopefully aid children with cerebral palsy and other neurological conditions.

Pandit Ji, as he is known to his ardent admirers, is the creator of Mohan Veena and winner of the Grammy Award in 1994 for his music album with Ry Cooder titled "A Meeting by the River''.

On Thursday, Pandit Ji along with his son Salil will play for Disha, an NGO offering special education and rehabilitation to the physically and mentally challenged children. Set up in 1995, in Rajasthan, Disha, aims help challenged children to discover themselves and develop their potential.

The musically evening, to be held at India Habitat Centre here, besides hoping to raise funds for the children, is also an effort to promote the Indian art form and display its versatility.

Pandit Ji, has attracted international attention by his Indianisation of the western Hawaiian guitar with perfect assimilation of the sitar, sarod and veena techniques by giving it revolutionary design and shape and by adding 14 more strings.

Acclaimed for his blinding speed and faultless legato, Pandit Ji is counted among the most expressive, versatile and greatest slide players in the world. Catch the master, display his "dazzling musicality, terrifying virtuosity and bewildering command over the Mohan Veena'' even while you get to contribute to a noble cause.
