A classical feast for music lovers

Pandurang Mutalik’s recital, as part of the vaggeyakara festival, was impressive.



Musical treat Pandurang Mutalik.

The five-day vaggeyakara festival of Andhra Music Academy featured a recital of Hindustani classical music by Pandurang Mutalik on sitar in the company of Harijit Singh on July 15 at Kalabharathi. It was in memory of Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande consi dered the father of modern Hindustani classical music. Pandurang got off to an exhilarating start with a composition in Raag Yaman in Vilambit and Dhrut gathis in Roopakatal. He continued with another in Keervani in Ektaal and concluded with a composition of Annamayya in Behag and a Thumri in Misra Sivaranjani.

The last evening dedicated to the memory of Muttuswamy Dikshitar, witnessed an absorbing recital of his compositions on violin by Peri Srirama Murty in the company of local artiste Mullapudi Srirama Murty on mridangam. It was constituted of Mahaganapathim (Naata), Ekaamresanaayiki (Karnataka Suddha Saveri), Kanjadalayataakshi (Kamalamanohari) adorned with exquisite aalapana and swaram and finally Balagopala (Bhairavi). Sreerama Murty executing a well structured Thani contributed grandeur.
