Govt. turns to rituals for rain

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD June 12. Faced with the unprecedented drought and acute shortage of drinking water in the State, the Government even while waiting expectantly for the monsoon to break has also decided to invoke the blessings of Rain God.

In consultation with noted scholar Malladi Chandrashekara Sastry, the Endowments Department has started religious activities like `Sahasra Ghattabhishekam' in all Sivalayams on Mondays as also `Varuna Japam' and `Virata Parva Pravachanam'.

All the executive officers were instructed to conduct the rituals, the Commissioner informed in a press release here on Thursday.

In pursuance of this, religious rituals were started in Keesaragutta on June 9 and at Sri Bramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Srisailam on June 13 and 14. Similar activities would be taken up at the Sri Ganesh temple in Secunderabad at 11 a.m. on Friday.
