Development possible only under Khurana: BJP

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI JUNE 12. Reiterating that the Delhi BJP president, Madan Lal Khurana, would lead the party in the forthcoming Assembly elections in Delhi, the senior party leader in-charge of Delhi, M.A. Naqvi, today said that Mr. Khurana was also the party's Chief Ministerial candidate.

Mr. Naqvi said this at a press conference here in response to queries after the meeting of the Central Election Committee of the party convened to discuss preparations for the Assembly polls in five States: Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Mizoram.

``At the meeting, the central party leaders decided to give full support to Mr. Khurana to lead the BJP in Assembly elections. We also believe that the all round development of the Capital is only possible with Mr. Khurana as the Delhi Chief Minister,'' Mr. Naqvi said.

Mr. Naqvi announced that Mr. Khurana would launch a "Nyaya Yatra'' from August 16 to September 20 to arouse popular opinion against what he alleged as the misrule of the Congress Government led by the Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit. The Yatra would cover all the 70 Assembly constituencies.

Just before this, Mr. Naqvi said the party would release a charge-sheet against the Sheila Government along with the similar documents for all Congress-ruled States where polls are scheduled later this year. The four and half years rule of the Congress in Delhi has been a period of scams, scandals, corruption and false promises. "Mr. Khurana would expose this before the people of the Capital,'' he said.

Earlier, Mr. Khurana alleged that the Sheila Dikshit Government was anti-poor, anti-labourers, and anti-farmers. "We are holding a convention of people of the slum dwellers and unauthorised colonies of the Capital on June 16 when we would an agitational programme for their rights,'' he said.

On June 26, a political conference of grassroots level party workers has been convened which will be addressed by the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, and the BJP president, Venkiah Naidu. "The convention would decide on the issues on which we will contest Assembly elections as also the nature of the movement that will be launched against the Sheila Dikshit Government,'' he said. Prior to starting his "Nyaya Yatra'' on August 16, Mr. Khurana said the party would launch a protest movement from July 1 to August 14.

He alleged the Congress Government has failed on all fronts. "In addition to power and water crisis, heavy corruption, gross injustice has been meted out to poor residents of slum and unauthorised colonies,'' he said.

Alleging that not a single college or hospital was opened during the Congress regime, Mr. Khurana said as a result a large number of students are unable to get admission in Delhi Colleges.

"During the previous BJP regime, as many as seven new colleges and one university were established,'' he argued. He alleged that the poor farmers were being given cheques for Rs. 2, Rs. 4, Rs. 6 and Rs. 11 under drought relief programme. "This is a cruel joke on the poor farmers,'' he said.

Mr. Khurana claimed that he had the key to solve the water crisis of the Capital for next 25 years. ''I will do that within one year of the BJP coming to power,'' he said.
