The subcommittee, headed by the RSP(B) leader, A. V. Thamarakshan, had opposed the Cabinet decision to notify 11 PSUs for disinvestment. Addressing a press conference here today, the UDF convener, Oommen Chandy, said that the Industries Minister, P. K. Kunhalikutty, had termed the panel's recommendations as impractical. He had informed the extended UDF HPC meeting at Kovalam on Wednesday that the State Government would require Rs. 376 crores to retain these 11 units in the public sector. Given the financial constraints and the budgetary allocation for the Industries Department, it would not be possible to mobilise the amount.
