Naxals blast three boats

By Our Staff Reporter

KURNOOL JUNE 12. Armed extremists of the People's War (PW) blasted three motor boats in the Krishna river, near Srisailam, on Wednesday night. According to reports, 20 extremists, including some women, arrived at Pathalaganga around 9 p.m. where the motor boats of the Tourism Department were moored, and threatened the staff before planting detonators. An 18-seater boat, costing Rs. 20 lakhs, and two eight-seater boats, each costing Rs. 7.5 lakhs, were blasted. The mechanised boats were badly damaged. Later, the extremists took away with them a scooter boat.

The extremists, who identified themselves as members of Koneru dalam, left a poster bearing the name of Mahabubnagar Krishna river belt secretary, Srinivas, which denounced undue promotion of tourism activity in the area.

Terming it as unproductive activity, the extremist note stated that tourism did not help the common man but caused waste of public money. They freed the tourism staff around 1 a.m. before leaving the place in the scooter boat.
