One of the dead has been identified as Chenji Subbaiah (72) while the name of an 80-year-old woman is yet to be ascertained. The outbreak of the epidemic has sent shivers among the residents and pilgrims, who throng the famous temple of Goddess Padmavathi here. While 40 persons, including 10 children, have been admitted to the TTD hospital, 44 were being treated at a makeshift medical camp held at the Zilla Parishad high school, Tiruchanur. Fifteen persons are being treated at the IDH ward in the Government Ruia hospital. Water contamination is believed to have resulted in the spread of the disease. Officials have cut water supply connections and pressed water tankers into service.
