Canon launches slew of products

By Our Corporate Reporter

CHENNAI MAY 16. Canon India has announced the launch of 24 new products covering the entire spectrum of digital imaging. Alok Bharadwaj, director and general manager (consumer imaging & information division) told The Hindu that these products were launched with the vision of becoming the country's number one digital imaging company by 2005. Despite the slowdown in the IT industry, Canon continued to maintain its growth registering a 33 per cent increase in revenues to Rs. 202 crores in the year ended December 2002. By 2005 the aim was to reach the Rs. 500 crore mark, he said.

With this launch Mr. Bharadwaj said Canon India had now more than 110 digital imaging products available in India and the company has achieved the "one lakh customers in India" landmark for its imaging products portfolio.

For the current year he said Canon had identified a three pronged strategy which included building a strong presence in the Indian photo printing market, penetrating the commercial corporate market segment and dominating the laser MFD (multi functional devices) segment where Canon had the global leadership position.

Canon India has established a software centre to develop document management software, including some general-purpose tool for Canon inc.
