Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday, the Minister of State for Railways, B. Dattatreya, said the Government Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force would monitor the movement of trains. They would also undertake inspection and patrolling on trains. Mr. Dattatreya expressed happiness at the sanciton of Rs. 50 crores for the electrification of the Tirupati-Pakala-Kadpadi section, where gauge conversion works are already in progress. He said after completion of the electrification work the distance between Tirupati and Bangalore and all South-bound express trains would be reduced by 55 km. The Minister said the South Central Railway was according top priority to the unloading of fodder from the Godavari districts in view of the severe drought facing Anantapur, Cuddapah and Chittoor districts. Three rakes were required for undertaking the unloading. He said the unloading was being done at Anantapur, Renigunta at the instance of the Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry, and the SCR General Manager, Stanley Babu. The SCR had run 42 fodder special trains till date. No State indents were pending with the railways for the movement of fodder to the drought-hit areas. Any number of trains would be run free of cost and on top priority.
