New syllabi for standards XI, XII on Internet

CHENNAI May 10. As part of revision of the secondary and higher secondary school curriculum through a consultative process, the School Education department has released the draft new syllabi for Standards XI and XII on the Internet (web site: www.tn.gov.in/schoolsyllabus) .

New textbooks based on the revised syllabus will be introduced for XI in 2004-05 and for XII in 2005-06. The syllabi have been revised by a high-level committee.

A Department release said educationists, professors, headmasters, teachers, parents, students and NGOs engaged in educational activities, as also interested persons, could examine the contents and offer their suggestions to further improve the syllabi.

Constructive opinion was welcome on any subject, wholly or partly, so that the quality of school education could be improved to international level.

The suggestions could be sent in person or by post to K. Mariappan, Member-Secretary, (Syllabus High Level Committee) and Joint Director, Personnel, Directorate of School Education, Chennai 600 006, or by e-mail to {lt}dirsedu@tn.nic.in

The committee released the syllabi for Standards VI to X on the Internet a few weeks ago. Later, the department organised seminars at district level to receive suggestions from groups and individuals. "All opinions and suggestions received are being reviewed by the committee," the release added.
