He told presspersons that as some of the statements made by him at a recent public meeting held on the issue of separate State for Telangana were misinterpreted by some people, it had become necessary form him to clarify the matter. He said although he had said that idea of smaller States was good for various reasons, he had not made any observations with regard to the Hyderabad Karnataka region. At a recent press conference, he had said that as the Fazal Ali Commission had recommended the unification of all Kannada-speaking areas, the question of separate State did not arise. However, the recommendations of the D.M.Nanjundappa Committee on Regional Imbalances should be looked into seriously, he said. Recalling what he stated at the public meeting, he said he had blamed successive governments, especially the Congress ones, for all the problems faced by the Telangana region now. He had suggested setting up of another commission to study the regional imbalances. However, although the media reported accurately what he had said during the press conference, some people had misinterpreted it, he said.
Seer's statement
Reacting to the statement of Balagangadharanath Swamiji of Adichunchangiri Math that he had misused a religious platform for political vendetta, Mr. Gowda said there was no question of misusing a religious platform to settle personal scores or for political vendetta. Let those who were making such allegations introspect as to who was using misusing religious platforms for political purposes, he said.
