Cong. plans training camps for workers

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE May 10. The KPCC President, B.Janardhana Poojary, said today that block- and district-level units of the Congress would hold training camps for a month from May 15. Addressing a convention of party leaders, ministers, legislators, and MPs, Mr. Poojary said a "Kranti Jyoti Yatra" would be taken out in the State.

The training camps were planned as per the direction given by the AICC President, Sonia Gandhi, at the two-day convention of block Congress presidents held in Delhi from April 28.

Mr. Poojary said the PCC would take a serious view if the camps were not held.

He said a major thrust in these camps would be to highlight the achievements of the Government, educate the masses on the historic role of the Indian National Congress in securing Independence, and expose the policies and programmes of the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre.

Mr. Poojary said those who secured "meritorious marks" in the camps would be honoured.

Stressing the need for unity, Mr. Poojary said Congressmen should not give room for groupism and should learn from the fate of the Janata Dal.

Mr. Poojary called upon the partymen to be ready for a snap poll.

The Chief Minister, S.M.Krishna, who inaugurated the convention, said the party was ready to face elections.

Vayalar Ravi, AICC General Secretary in charge of Karnataka, said the purpose of holding the camps was to instil nationalism in young partymen.

He ridiculed the BJP and said the BJP-led NDA Government was the most corrupt and urged his partymen to be ready to face elections any time.

The AICC General Secretary, Irshad Beig, spoke. A large number of ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and district and block Congress presidents were present.

Earlier, a meeting of the Executive Committee of the KPCC was held at the party office. It is learnt that the meeting discussed the need to organise training camps.

Mr. Krishna told presspersons that he was consulting legal experts on the issue of rural weightage in employment, which was struck down by the Supreme Court recently.
