The only achievement of the five-year NDA rule is the price spiral, which affects not the ruling class but only the middle and poorer classes, the general secretary, M. S. Rajendran, said in a statement. The price of petrol and LPG and railway fare had gone up severalfold in the past five years. The latest increase in telephone tariff, along with a cut in the call pulse rate, would affect the common man, while MLAs and MPs continued to enjoy these and other facilities of housing and travel at the expense of the tax payer's money. If the NDA rule continued, people would only suffer more and with each passing day, they were only apprehensive which commodity or service would become costlier. The alternative lay only in bringing a truly secular and efficient leadership for the country, Mr. Rajendran said.
