Five arrested for murder

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI APRIL 14. Five persons, including a woman, have been arrested by the West Delhi police for allegedly killing a 26-year-old man at Tilak Nagar in West Delhi on Friday and dumping his body in a gutter.

According to the police, the incident came to light when the police went about trying to locate the man who had gone missing since Friday afternoon.

The police said Anil Kumar, a resident of Chaukhandi in Tilak Nagar, had taken his nephew, Sonu, for a drive on his scooter on Friday morning. Around 3-30 p.m., Sonu was brought home by two persons who claimed that the boy was lost in the area. They claimed his address was traced by the identity card tucked in his school uniform.

However, since Anil did not return, his family members lodged a missing complaint at the Tilak Nagar police station.

On Saturday, the police came to know that Anil knew a woman by the name of Jaspal Kaur, wife of Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Santgarh in Tilak Nagar. When the police questioned her about the injuries, Jaspal broke down. Jaspal told the police that Anil had come to her house on Friday and they had an altercation following which she was hit in the face by him.

Upon this, Jaspal's father, Hakim Singh, his neighbours and relatives -- Manjeet Singh and Satnam Singh, and Sukhdev Singh beat up Anil with hockey sticks and rods and strangled him to death.

The foursome then put the body of Anil in a Maruti van and dumped it in a gutter in the area of North-West Delhi late in the evening. At the instance of the accused, Anil's body, the Maruti van and also the scooter of Anil were recovered. The police arrested all five on charges of killing Anil and trying to destroy the evidence.

Interrogation of the accused revealed that Jaspal and Anil had been having affair for the past year-and-a-half. On Tuesday, Anil and Jaspal had gone to Kakrola where Jaspal has got a plot. After returning, Anil had asked Jaspal to call him again on Wednesday. However, she did not. Anil was apparently angry with her refusal and when he met Jaspal on Friday an altercation ensued.

The police said Jaspal had informed her husband about Anil harassing her. When Sukhdev saw that Anil had come over and the two were having an altercation, he -- along with others -- got angry and beat up and strangled Anil to death.
