Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Staff Reporter
The cats are all female and were born on February 2. With the birth of the triplets, the panther population at the zoo has risen to ten. The new-born are a special attraction for the visitors. The zoo curator, B. Srinivas, told The Hindu that there was a scarcity of female panthers at the zoo until now. Of the six adult panthers, two were female and four male. There was one more six-month-old cub apart from the latest triplets born. Explaining the measures taken to address the problem of contaminated drinking water at the zoo, Mr. Srinivas said an aquaguard was installed at the entrance with a capacity of 600 litres. All the public taps supplying water from Himayatsagar reservoir were closed and instead eight cement tanks were constructed and filled with water drawn from borewells. Pots of borewell water were also placed here and there.
