Ponnaiyan clarifies

With reference to the news report, `Opposition behaviour reprehensible: Jayalalithaa', published in these columns on April 11, the Finance Minister, C. Ponnaiyan writes:

``I am constrained to point that your Special Correspondent's pre-meditated bias in filing this report is more than evident and in fact blatant. Our beloved leader Dr. Puratchi Thalaivi Amma while speaking in the Assembly on 11.4.2003 on the Queen Mary's College episode clearly described the irresponsible and reprehensible behaviour of the DMK MLAs led by M. K. Stalin in having criminally trespassed into an educational institution for women and trying to mislead and manipulate students for their narrow political ends.

Our leader Dr. Puratchi Thalaivi Amma, did not say anything that was abusive nor were any abuses hurled at any member as wrongly reported by you. Your Correspondent has described our beloved leader's tone as `high pitched' but has deliberately chosen not to make any mention of the stridency and extremely high decibel level of the diatribe launched by Thiru S.R. Balasubramaniam.

Our leader's vociferous and authentic defence of the Government's action in this entire episode was in sharp contrast to the disproportionate, unbalanced and provocative verbal assault launched by Opposition MLAs led by Thiru S.R. Balasubramaniam".
