Election outcome triggers rival processions

KOZHIKODE APRIL 14. Following the outcome of the elections to the Rajya Sabha, the Congress activists belonging to both the Karunakaran and the Antony factions took out separate marches in the city this evening.

The Kozhikode District Congress Committee (DCC) president, M. Veerankutty, a known protege of the senior Congress leader, K. Karunakaran, led the protest march from the DCC Office to the YMCA Link Road. About 350 activists participated in the march which was by and large peaceful. They shouted slogans against the Chief Minister, A.K.Antony, and the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president, Sonia Gandhi. The DCC vice president, Ramachandran Master, the Youth Congress State president, K. Praveen Kumar, and the secretary, K. Jayanth, participated in the protest march. About 300 Congress activists of the Antony faction participated in the victory procession led by former MLA, N.P. Moideen.
