Officials warned against laxity in relief works

By Our Staff Reporter

MUSKHANPET APRIL 14. The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu has warned erring revenue officials and the village sarpanches of serious action if they fail to execute the drought relief operations in the villages.

Participating in the `Jalachaitanyam' gram sabha on the concluding day of the programme on Monday in this drought-affected village about 60 kilometers from the district headquarters in Illanthakunta mandal, the Chief Minister grilled revenue officials and the village sarpanch for failing to take up drought relief measures of providing employment to labourers under the Food for Work scheme.

"Don't play with the lives of the poor. I will not tolerate,'' he warned the officials and instructed them to intensify the execution of various works taken up under the Food for Work scheme even after the Jalachaitanyam programme.

Expressing concern over the failure of providing employment to the labourers in the village under the Food for Work scheme despite supply of rice, he warned the officials and the sarpanches to mend their ways or else they would be dealt with seriously. "The Government is ready to give rice and money. It is the duty of the officials to execute the works and provide employment opportunities to labour,'' he pointed out.

Interacting with the village sarpanch, Narayana, the Chief Minister asked him about the rainfall and groundwater table in the village. He also enquired about the distribution of rice under the FFW scheme and provision of employment to the labourers.

He also queried about how many labourers needed work in the village. When the sarpanch said that out of a total of 130 labourers, he had provided employment to about 30 labourers by taking up deepening of well, the Chief Minister instructed the sarpanch to mend his ways as the last warning.

When the village secretary informed the Chief Minister about providing employment to 39 labourers in the village by taking up construction of two cattle troughs and deepening of one well, Mr Naidu asked him how many mandays were generated in the village. The village secretary, the RDO and MRO failed to respond positively. Expressing his ire, he instructed the Collector to take necessary action against the officials for their poor performance.

The Minister for Transport, M. Damodar Reddy, the Nerella MLA, S. Devaiah, the Peddapalli MP, Suguna Kumari, the Karimnagar DCCB chairman, Gandra Venkateshwar Rao, the Zilla Parishad chairman, K.V Rajeshwara Rao, the former MLA, Ch Rajeshwara Rao, the ZPTC member, Suman Babu, the MPP, Prabhakar, the Collector, Sumita Dawra and others were also present.
