KSRTC fares lowest: Minister

By Our Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE APRIL 14. The fares charged by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) are the lowest compared to those charged by other State road transport corporations, the Karnataka Minister for Transport, B. Ramanath Rai, said here on Monday. He said that this was despite the recent increase in fares.

He told The Hindu that the KSRTC was concentrating on providing better services to people.

To maintain punctuality of schedules, passengers on long routes were refunded 10 per cent of the fare if buses reached the destination more than 30 minutes late.

On the recent fire in two KSRTC ultra deluxe buses in Bangalore and at Uppinangady near here, Mr. Rai said both seemed to be accidents. The technical team of the KSRTC had conducted a study and corrective measures would be taken to prevent the recurrence of such mishaps.
