Leaders garland Ambedkar statue

Pondicherry April 14. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, accompanied by the Speaker, M.D.R. Ramachandran, his Cabinet colleagues, party MLAs, the PCC president, V. Narayanasamy, the chairman of PAPSCO, V. Bhaalan, and the chairperson of the Mahila Congress, Jeane Pourani, today garlanded the statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on the occasion of his 113th birth anniversary today.

The Chief Minister and others then went to the Ambedkar Manimandapam on the Beach Road and paid homage to the leader. The Director of Art and Culture, S. Chandrasekaran and officials accompanied Mr. Rangasamy.

The DMK convener and the Opposition Leader in the Assembly, R.V. Janakiraman, the State DMK vice-president, C.P. Tirunavukarasu, MP, and party MLAs garlanded the statue of Ambedkar in the Bharathi Park.

The AIADMK secretary and MLA, A. Anbalagan and A. Kasilingam, MLA, also garlanded the statue.

The BJP State Committee president, R. Kesavalu, and the party MLA, A.M. Krishnamoorthy, the CPI State Secretary, N. Kalainathan, the former Agriculture Minister, R. Viswanathan, the former Health Minister, V. Pethaperumal (Janata Dal-U), the Lok Shakthi Workers Union president, B. Sathiaseelan, the PMK organising secretary, N.G. Panneerselvam, MDMK functionaries led by Gabriel, DK volunteers, representatives of different organisations championing the cause of the SCs and STs, the representatives of the FUTURE led by its president, Radha, the Dalit Sena president, K. Anbu, the president of the Lok Jan Shakthi, Palaninathan, and the Bhim Sena volunteers led by P. Moorthy were among those who garlanded the statue.

Tributes were paid to Dr. Ambedkar at the celebrations held at the Congress headquarters here.

The PCC chief, Mr. Narayanasamy, presided over the celebrations. The legislators, freedom fighters and representatives of different wings of the party participated.

Volunteers of the Youth Congress (North wing) distributed food packets to the poor.

The Youth Congress State committee president, K. Pandian, inaugurated the programme near the Amudhasurabi complex on the Mahatma Gandhi Road.

D. Pradish Irudayaraj, president of the party north wing, said stationery was also given to the poor children free of cost.

Statue unveiled

Our Karaikal Staff Reporter reports:

A statue of Ambedkar was unveiled by the Director (Human Resources), ONGC, Jauharilal, at the ONGC Karaikal Asset complex, Niravi, near Karaikal today.

Mr. Jauharilal also distributed financial and material assistance to the tune of Rs. 6 lakhs under the component plan and around Rs. 59 lakhs under the socio-economic scheme.

The Karaikal Asset Group General Manager, D. J. Baruah and other senior officials participated in the function organised jointly by the ONGC and the All-India SC/ST Employees Association.
