New Kancheepuram-Chennai BG EMU flagged off

KANCHEEPURAM APRIL 14 . The Southern Railway has introduced an additional broad gauge EMU service between Kancheepuram and Chennai Beach on the Tamil New Year day.

The new train was flagged off today by A.K. Moorthy, Union Minister of State for Railways, at the New Kancheepuram station in the presence of Union Minister, N.T. Shanmugam.

Mr. Moorthy said the new BG EMU train was provided with modern facilities and that the additional train was introduced following a great demand from traders and the people.

The Minister said all passenger and EMU trains stopped at the Old Kancheepuram station following representations from the traders and public, the Kancheepuram Town Old Railway Station Protection Committee and other consumer fora. The daily service would leave Kancheepuram at 10 a.m., reach Chengalpattu at 10.35 a.m., Tambaram at 11.20 a.m. and reach Chennai Beach at 12.20 p.m.

The train will leave Chennai Beach at 7.40 a.m. arrive at Tambaram at 8.35 a.m., Chengalpattu at 9 a.m. and at Kancheepuram at 9.45 a.m.

S.S. Thirunavukkarasu, MLA, and K. Arumugam, chairman, Kancheepuram municipality, participated.
