Govt. urged to fill head master posts in primary schools

Pondicherry April 14. Members of the Federation of the Secondary Grade Teachers would lay a siege to the Chief Secretariat here on April 17, according to a resolution adopted at the federation meeting here today. In a joint statement, the president, S. Kandhavelu, and the general secretary, S. Edward Charles, urged the Government to fill the head master posts in the primary schools.

It also demanded that the post of the vice-principal grade-II in the Government French school be filled from among the secondary grade teachers proficient in French.

The other demands included retrospective payment of medical allowance of Rs. 75 to teachers from January 1996 as was announced on the floor of the Assembly and immediate implementation of the seniority and selection grade scales.

The meeting was addressed by P. Latchoumanasamy, general secretary of the Central Federation of Government Employees, and the honorary president of the SGT Federation, G. Thulasi.

The president of the Lecturers (teachers in Government Higher Secondary schools) Association, S. K. Subramanian, said his association would also hold a demonstration, demanding that lecturers be assigned only 18 periods a week.
