Kharge to open KSRP Township today

MANGALORE APRIL 14. The Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) personnel here are all set to get new houses and a host of other facilities. The Home Minister, Mallikarjun Kharge, will open the KSRP Township near Konaje on Tuesday.

Speaking to The Hindu, the Commandant of the KSRP, P. Balasubramanium, said the Home Minister would inaugurate 144 houses (KSRP quarters), an armoury, administrative office, and a vehicle yard.

He said 120 quarters were meant for constables and their families, and 24 for the officer cadre. The administrative block, which would accommodate all KSRP administrative cadres and personnel in Mangalore, had been built at a cost of Rs. 1.19 crore. It would house all platoons and companies of the KSRP and was equipped with an emergency alarm system.

The armoury building had been specially designed and built according to all safety standards.

It could hold the weapons of all the battalions of the KSRP and was equipped with an airtight compartment for storing tear gas grenades and a special storing chamber for explosives and ammunition, Mr. Balasubramanium said.

The armoury would have an armer who could service any weapon and an armoury expert who would maintain the explosives.

Built at a cost of Rs. 32 lakh, the armoury was one among few of its kind in the State. The complex would also have a 12-vehicle transport yard, built at a cost of Rs. 21 lakh.
