Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
According to a press note issued by the zonal director of the NCB, the operation was mounted following a confession made by one Mohammed Fasrin (27), a Sri Lankan national, who was arrested along with one Abdul Sattar of Bangalore by NCB officers on April 10, following a tip-off. The two were wanted in two NCB cases relating to the seizure of 21.8 kg and 7.4 kg of heroin at Hosur and Madurai respectively. Fasrin told the authorities that he had arranged for 12 kg of heroin to be smuggled to Sri Lanka and that the staging point would be Koottapuli. The joint operation resulted in the discovery of 12.4 kg of heroin in five packets in the bushes near the Koottapuli coast. While Fasrin has confessed to his involvement in the Madurai incident of January 4, 2003, Sattar has confessed to his involvement in the Hosur incident of August 17, 2002. According to the pressnote, Mohammed Fasrin is also a conspirator in the case of trafficking of about 9.5 kg of heroin seized by the Rajasthan police on March 26, 2003. In all Fasrin is involved in four cases of shipment of heroin (51 kg of heroin) from the Tamil Nadu coast to Sri Lanka. This year the Regional Intelligence Unit, Thiruvananthapuram has seized about 42 kg of heroin, busting five major drug syndicates, the release added.
