Milk vendor hacked to death by six-member gang

BANGALORE APRIL 10. A milk vendor was hacked to death by a six-member gang in Jnanabharathi police station limits here on Thursday morning.

Police say that at around 6.15 a.m., G. Ravi (28), a milk vendor and resident of Malagala, off the Bangalore University campus, was going on his bicycle to supply milk. When he had reached 7th Cross, Nagarabhavi 2nd Stage, six men armed with choppers and swords, who reached the spot in a white van, attacked him. Ravi died on the spot. Police suspect that Billa Rama, Kari Mahadeva, and four others, who were Ravi's rivals in the milk business, murdered him. Jnanabharathi police have taken up a case of murder and begun a search for the accused.

Youth commits suicide

Suresh (23), an autorickshaw driver, committed suicide by hanging himself using a sari, in his house in Ramaswamy Palya in Banaswadi police station limits on Wednesday night. His wife, Bhuvaneshwari, was at her mother's house when the incident occurred. Police say Suresh was an alcoholic and suffered from depression.

Dowry: 3 get jail terms

The 12th Additional Civil Court has sentenced three persons to seven years' imprisonment for harassing their sister-in-law to bring dowry.

G.N. Lakshmi (23), who was married to Sreenivasa Murthy of Mathikere, committed suicide by setting herself on fire on July 19, 1999.

She was mentally and physically tortured by her brothers-in-law, Srikanth (24) and Venkatesh (29), and sister-in-law, Shoba (25).

Yeshwantpur police had arrested Srikanth, Venkatesh and Shoba, and filed chargesheet against them. On April 5, the 12th Additional Civil Court Judge, Somashekar, sentenced the accused to seven years' imprisonment, and imposed a fine of Rs.1,000 on each of them.

Arrested for theft

Kadugondanahalli police have arrested Surya alias Suri (33) of Bagalur Layout on charges of theft and recovered gold ornaments, wristwatches, and two-wheelers worth Rs. 1.5 lakh from him.

With Surya's arrest police claim to have solved six cases of theft reported from Kadugondanahalli and Banaswadi police station limits. Earlier, the accused served a jail term for similar offences he committed in Kadugondanahalli police station limits, police say.
