Sanaa Bhambri scrapes through

NEW DELHI APRIL 9. Sixth-seeded Sanaa Bhambri scraped through to a 6-0, 5-7, 6-3 victory over the 706th ranked wild card entrant Akiko Minami of Japan in the second round of the Japan Open Group `I' ITF junior tennis tournament in Nagoya, Japan, on Wednesday.

Sanaa who had a bye in the first round, will take on the 11th seeded Lara Giltinan of Australia in the pre-quarterfinals.

The third-seeded Sania Mirza, fresh from her title triumph in a similar tournament in Manila last week, cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Ai Tomiyama of Japan.

The 14-year-old Tara Iyer could not enact her bravado of making the final of the tournament last week, and fell in the second round, after a bye in the first, to the 672nd ranked wild card entrant Nana Tsuchiya of Japan 1-6, 6-4, 3-6.

The fifth-seeded Karan Rastogi beat qualifier Shuhei Uzawa of Japan 6-1, 6-0 in the second round, after a bye in the first.

However, the third-seeded Somdev Dev Varman fell quite uncharacteristically 1-6, 4-6 to the 462nd ranked Tomohiro Toriya of Japan in the second round.
