Software purchase: KSEB refutes charge

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM APRIL 8. The KSEB has refuted the allegation of the AITUC-affiliated Kerala Electricity Workers' Federation (KEWF) that there is corruption in the deal for purchasing software from Microsoft for computerising KSEB offices.

In a press release issued here today, the KSEB said all legal formalities were observed by it while placing the order for purchasing Microsoft software. The costs of different system software and the availability of technical assistance for the next five years were the factors considered while selecting the software, it said.

The decision was not taken solely on the basis of the evaluation done by the technical division in the KSEB.

The advice of the State Government's IT Mission too was sought while selecting Microsoft software.

"It is because of ignorance about the basic facts relating to the topic that the KEWF has come up with such an allegation'', the press release said.

The computer system being installed in the KSEB would enable each of its 560 offices spread across the State to function independently.

Also, the Microsoft had promised free technical assistance for developing the software that would satisfy KSEB's requirements.

The transfer of the free technical assistance was done through Pricewater Coopers, the press release informed.

The KSEB would have full right over the billing software development by it.

It would also have complete control over the technical and safety aspects of the billing software, according to the press release.

The KSEB further said the computerisation programme, which would bring a lot of benefits to the consumers, was now well into the implementation stage.
