Mr. Singh said the regional managers in the Vizianagaram zone had been asked to improve occupancy ratio by two per cent this year. He said there was no major deflection in occupancy ratio despite a marginal increase in bus fares. Mr. Singh said in Srikakulam region the loss was reduced by Rs. 130 lakhs. In Vizianagaram losses amounted to just Rs. 3 lakhs and this too was mainly because of illegal operation of buses, particularly in Cheepurupalli mandal, and increase in frequency of train services. About 2000 buses would be replaced this year and 220 more hired on contract basis. He said 10 special air-conditioned buses each costing Rs. 49 lakhs would be operated to major cities like Bangalore, and Tirupati. The Vizianagaram Regional Manager, G. Ravi Kumar was present. Award for Amalapuram Mr. Singh gave away the best depot award and all best service award of the East Godavari district APSRTC to Amalapuram depot. Staff who achieved `best kilometre per litre' were also rewarded.
