Naxals loot cement factory

By Our Staff Reporter

NALGONDA MARCH 31. In a midnight attack on a cement factory, a group of naxalites decamped with about Rs.4 lakhs in cash and four walkie-talkies after thrashing 13 of its employees. The factory is situated at Ganeshpahad of Damaracharla mandal on the borders of Nalgonda and Guntur districts.

According to the police sources, nearly 20 youths led by two suspected members of Naguleti dalam ransacked the newly-established Chanakya Cements Limited last night. While the duo, clad in olive green dress, were reportedly armed with a pistol and a tapancha, others were brandishing iron rods.

The naxals first attacked the Laboratory Department and slapped seven employees when they tried to raise the alarm. On coming to know about the attack, a group of security personnel rushed to the spot only to be thrashed by the naxals. The assistant security officer and another guard suffered injuries on knees.

Later, the naxals broke open the cash box in the Accounts Department and looted about Rs.4 lakhs. Before fleeing the scene, they took two walkie-talkies from the Instrumentation Department and another two from the injured security personnel.

They raised slogans like "the Krishnapatti dalam Zindabad'' and ''Comrades Zindabad.'' They also warned the employees of the factory of dire consequences if the management failed to provide employment to the retrenched personnel immediately.

Surprisingly, the police officials in the district headquarters came to know about the incident only at 8.30 a.m. on Monday. The SP, V.C.Sajjnar, and the OSD, P.Viswa Prasad, rushed to the spot and questioned of the employees to know details.

The police officials said that the attack had nothing to do with the encounter death of the top naxal leader, Ramakrishna alias RK. They opined that either the Naguleti dalam or the Bellamkonda dalam participated in the attack as Ganeshpahad is very close to Piduguralla of Guntur district, where the movement has been taking deep roots.

Meanwhile, special police parties have launched a massive combing in the mandal and are rounding up the suspected youth.
