Awards for TV serials, tele-films announced

HYDERABAD March 31. `Mano Yagnam', the daily Television serial has won five Nandi awards for 2001 in various categories including the golden Nandi in the category of Best TV daily serial.

`Mahakavi Kaalidasu' and `Sivaleelalu' were adjudged the best under the `Regular Serials' and `Mega Serials' categories respectively.

The Minister for Home, Cinematography and Film Development Corporation T.Devendar Gowd, told mediapersons here on Monday that the Nandi T.V.Film Awards Committee headed by prominent theatre personality Chatla Sriramulu chose the best entries under various categories and submitted its report to the Government.

Mr. Devender Goud appreciated the efforts of the FDC Chairman D.V.S. Raju for clearing the backlog of Nandi awards announced by the State Government every year for films, television and theatre. The Government was keen on announcing the awards without backlog from this year, he said.

Mr.Sriramulu said that the committee comprising experts from various fields -- P.Rajeswari, Y.Raghavi, G.S.Varadachari, M.K.Ramu, K.Chatterjee, Yamini Saraswathi, Y.K.Nageswara Rao, as members and S.Balasubramanyam as convenor watched all the serials from Feb.24 to March 31 and announced the awards for TV serials, Tele films, children's films, documentary films, socially relevant films and individual awards.

The committee received 39 entries from all categories.

The following is the list of award winners under other categories: Best Tele film-`Thellavarindi', second best- `Stree Naizam', second best regular serial-`Muvvala Ravali', second best mega serial- `Mouna Raagalu', second best TV daily serial- `Santhinivaasam'.

Under the Children's film category, `Pancha Bhoothalu' won the best film award and `Akkineni Antharangam', the best TV documentary film while `Baanaamathi' was adjudged the best under the `Socially relevant film' category.

Individual awards: Best director-Meer, leading actor-Prakash Bharadwaj, leading actress- Kalyani, supporting actor-Vinod Bala, supporting actress- Cineraj, comedian-Sivaji Raja, villain- Edida Sriram, screenplay writer-Ch.Suman, story writer-Kommanapalli Ganapathirao, lyric writer-Suman, Cinematographer- S.D.John, music director-Vasu Rao, male playback singer-Ramu, female playback singer-Nitya Santhoshini, best child artiste-Ananda Vardhan.
