ABVP workers go on the rampage

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Dec. 17. Several persons, including a woman, were injured and shops and houses of CPI(M) sympathisers damaged when a group of ABVP workers went on the rampage at Udayankulangara in Parassala police station limits on Tuesday evening.

The DySP (Neyyatinkara), Sathyaraj, said the activists were retaliating for the attack on a ABVP worker at the Dhanavachapuram VTMNSS campus in the afternoon. He said 30-odd students of the college had taken to the road, smashing the window panes of a confectionary shop and STD booth at the Udayankulangara junction at around 4.30 p.m.

The activists also pelted stones at the house of one Rajkumar, an SFI sympathiser and student of the University College. Police said the 30-member group barged into the house of one Sati, a CPI(M) worker, and destroyed property, including a television set. Sati's mother-in-law, Padmini, who tried to prevent the ABVP workers, was hit on the head, police said.
