Concern over SC ruling on minority institutions

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Dec. 17. The recent Supreme Court judgment on minority educational institutions negates the constitutionally-guaranteed rights, K. Ramaswamy, former Supreme Court Judge, said here on Tuesday.

Speaking at a seminar on the `Impact of the SC judgment on the education system', he said the basic right to education would be denied to a large section of society. The seminar was organised by the AP Committee of the Students Federation of India (SFI), according to a press release.

C. Ramaiah, noted educationist, suggested that Parliament bring about a law to see that the judgment does not alienate the common man and downtrodden sections. Another educationist, Parimi, expressed concern over the commodification of education.

K.V.K. Rao, secretary, Rural Engineering Colleges Management Association, R. Arun Kumar and T. Sagar, president and secretary respectively of the State SFI, spoke.
