LS passes election law bill

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI DEC. 17 . Despite some reservations, the Lok Sabha today passed the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill, 2002, as per which candidates for the Parliamentary and Assembly elections would have to disclose their criminal antecedents while filing nominations, and declare their assets and liabilities after being elected.

The Bill was passed by voice vote after the statutory resolution moved by Ramjilal Suman of the Samajwadi Party and others for disapproval of the Representation of the People (Amendment) Ordinance, 2002, was rejected by the House.
