Teenager saves child

CHENNAI DEC. 17 . An open septic tank in the city, one of many, would have claimed another life today but for an alert teenage girl.

Two-year-old Anthony was playing on the road in Bharathi Avenue, Kottur, this morning when he fell in a septic tank which was covered with only a cardboard strip. A neighbour, Parvathi (16), who noticed him falling into the tank, jumped in immediately and saved him before he drowned in the sewage.

"I just went into the septic tank and brought him out," said Parvathi, who lives in a slum there and works as a housemaid.
