By Luv Puri

JAMMU DEC. 17. A T-72 Main Battle Tank of the Army, part of a convoy, caught fire near the Bakshi Nagar area late on Monday night. Soldiers escorting the tanks, however, escaped unhurt.

The tank, mounted on a trailer and carried by a heavy Army vehicle, was on its way from Akhnoor to Jammu. The other Army vehicles were immediately taken to safer places. The tank, reportedly carrying explosives, belonged to the 82 armoured regiment. There was a series of explosions as the tank caught fire.

Sabotage ruled out

The Minister of State for Defence, Chaman Lal Gupta, has ruled out any sabotage in the blasts. Talking to reporters today, Mr. Gupta said investigation was on to find out the reason behind the incident.
